BEAUTY.IN.THE.EVERYDAY

Beauty in the Everyday is a project that explores the overlooked moments, objects, and routines that make up our daily lives.
Through drawing, animation, and film, I highlight the quiet complexity of daily routine —like brushing teeth or sorting through a drawer—
to show that even the most routine actions can hold meaning, beauty, and depth when we slow down and look closely.
By observing these mundane, everyday objects more closely, we begin to uncover much more of a story—
every object has a past, a purpose, and a personal connection.
Turning the ordinary to extraordinary.

Lee John Phillips – Grandad’s Shed
Grandad’s Shed is an ongoing project by illustrator Lee John Phillips, in which he meticulously documents every single item in his late grandfather’s shed—over 100,000 objects in total. Through detailed hand-drawn illustrations, Phillips transforms these ordinary tools, screws, and containers into a vast visual archive of memory, routine, and personal history. The project is both a tribute to his grandfather and a celebration of the often-overlooked items that quietly shape our everyday lives. By focusing on the seemingly mundane, Grandad’s Shed highlights the emotional weight and storytelling potential of even the simplest objects.
